Bard

Bards are support specialists who use their songs to inspire their allies and dishearten their foes, and are most effective as part of a group of adventurers, where their musical motifs, codas, fanfares, and anthems are most effective.

Strengths

The bard is a support class, with a number of buffs and debuffs and limited healing capabilities. They get a number of long duration group buffs called fanfares, but a given player can only have one of these at any given time. They can also toggle one of several anthems (e.g. increased movement speed or increased armor) which last indefinitely and affect the bard’s entire group or raid. Finally, they get a large number of short duration (15-30 seconds) buffs which they must continually cast, but greatly enhance the party’s damage and survivability. At higher specializations, a bards motifs (the short duration buffs) literally buff every single stat in the game and even provide a happy dosage of mana/energy/power/charge regeneration.

Weaknesses

While the bard has excellent support abilities, they do not on their own have especially high damage, healing, or survivability. In light of this they require points spent in an additional soul, or ideally some companions, in order to be most effective. They will not be a Paladin tank. They will not have a Pyromancer’s DPS. They will not be a solo-healer. They will just make them all noticeably better.

Gameplay

The bard is a fountain of energy and movement. Their play style is support — dishing out mild damage while reducing the group’s incoming damage, helping all with anthems, motives and fanfares. Though not an offensive destroyer, they can win a fight on their own with a bit of time. Whether a pure soul or mixed with ranger for a pet (recommended), conceal, or maybe a sticky bomb from the saboteur, you can run the lands hunting treasures. The Bard finishers (Codas) vary in function, being anything from direct damage to debuffs and even, at a minimum of 21 points spent in the tree (as of beta 3), a group heal.
